Fresh cracks have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State following the suspension of two key grassroots leaders over allegations of signature forgery and misconduct.
The State Working Committee (SWC) of the party approved the suspension of Bassa Local Government Chairman, Abubakar Umar, and Mozum Ward Chairman, Alhaji Adama Ibrahim, after accusations that they forged the signatures of 15 ward executives.
The decision, announced in a statement issued in Lokoja, stems from resolutions reached by the Mozum Ward Executive Committee during a meeting held on April 1 at Mozum Primary School.
According to the committee, the suspension takes immediate effect and will last for an initial one month pending the outcome of investigations.
At the heart of the controversy is an alleged letter purportedly circulating within party ranks, falsely claiming the suspension of the state PDP chairman. The document was said to bear forged signatures of ward executives in a bid to give it legitimacy.
The ward leadership described the alleged act as a “serious misconduct” capable of undermining party unity, warning that such actions could damage the party’s integrity and fuel internal divisions.
Citing relevant provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the committee maintained that the allegations, if proven, amount to a grave breach of discipline.
As part of the ongoing disciplinary process, both officials have been directed to appear before the Mozum Ward Disciplinary Committee to defend themselves. They may attend in person or through legal representation, with hearing details to be communicated later.
The ward executives emphasized that the suspension remains provisional and does not pre-empt the final outcome of investigations.
The notice of suspension was signed by the ward’s Deputy Chairman, Hon. Usman Isah, alongside fourteen other executive members, reaffirming the party’s stance on due process and internal accountability.
The development signals a widening internal crisis within the PDP in the state, raising concerns over cohesion ahead of future political engagements.
