Christian faithful in Jigawa State have called on political leaders to demonstrate renewed commitment and decisive action in addressing Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
The call was made by the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Fr. Maurice Kole Hassan, shortly after an Easter special service held in Dutse.
Hassan said the Easter season offers a solemn opportunity for reflection, thanksgiving, and prayers for the nation, particularly in light of ongoing insecurity affecting several parts of the country.
He disclosed that worshippers offered special prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi, and other leaders, seeking divine guidance and wisdom in tackling security concerns.
The service, held at the Evangelical Church Winning All in Dutse, also featured prayers for peaceful political processes and credible campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hassan noted that insecurity in states such as Plateau, Benue, and Kaduna underscores the urgency for both spiritual reflection and concrete policy action, warning that peace remains essential for development and daily life.
“Without peace, people cannot worship, engage in business, or go about their daily activities,” he said, adding that even relatively peaceful states like Jigawa must not ignore the plight of affected communities elsewhere.
He further called for unity and interfaith cooperation, urging Christians and Muslims to work together in promoting national cohesion and stability.
On the 2027 elections, the CAN chairman reiterated the organisation’s non-partisan stance, advising voters to prioritise integrity and competence over religious considerations.
He stressed that leadership must be guided by conscience, sincerity, and a sense of responsibility, while expressing hope that stronger political will—combined with sustained prayers—would help restore lasting peace in the country.
