Dantani: Kashim Shettima embodies loyalty, resilience, visionary leadership

Constitutional lawyer and rights activist, Hamza N. Dantani, has praised Vice President Kashim Shettima as a defining figure of loyalty, resilience and thoughtful leadership in Nigeria’s evolving democracy.
In a statement, Dantani said his assessment of the Vice President is rooted in years of observing his public service record, rather than political sentiment.
“My admiration is based on sustained observation of his character, conduct and unwavering commitment to service.”
He traced Shettima’s rise from the banking sector—where he built a reputation for discipline, integrity and mentorship—into public service under former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, before eventually assuming leadership of the state at a critical time.
According to Dantani, Shettima’s tenure as governor coincided with the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency, a period he described as one of the most difficult in Borno’s history.
“His leadership went beyond governance; it was about restoring hope, rebuilding institutions and stabilising a people under siege.”
He noted that Shettima navigated the crisis with “calm resolve, courage and strategic foresight,” contributing to recovery and stabilisation efforts in the state.
Dantani also highlighted the Vice President’s standing within the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a loyal and principled figure who has helped strengthen internal cohesion, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
After serving as governor, Shettima represented Borno in the Senate before emerging as Vice President alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Beyond politics, Dantani portrayed him as a bridge-builder known for his inclusive style and measured approach to leadership.
“He is a calm, unifying leader who avoids vendettas and prioritises collective progress.”
He further commended Shettima’s intellectual depth and communication style, noting that his speeches are often reflective and engaging.
Dantani added that the Vice President’s public record remains largely untainted by allegations of abuse of power, reinforcing his credibility in national leadership.
“He embodies intellectual capacity, emotional intelligence, humility and a genuine commitment to the people.”
He concluded that Shettima’s presence in the current administration brings “balance and strategic depth,” describing him as a leader who reflects both Nigeria’s realities and its future potential.
“He represents not just what Nigeria is, but what it can become—a nation guided by vision, compassion and enduring integrity.”
