Alumni Suspend Publicity Secretary, Dissolve BoT at Kaura Namoda Polytechnic AGM

The Alumni Association of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda has taken sweeping decisions aimed at restructuring its leadership and strengthening internal governance, including the suspension of its National Publicity Secretary and dissolution of its Board of Trustees.
The resolutions were reached at the Association’s Annual General Meeting held on March 28, 2026, where members deliberated on key issues affecting both the alumni body and the institution.
In a major disciplinary move, the National Publicity Secretary, Obalola Ebenezer Olufemi, was suspended for one year over conduct considered damaging to the image of the association and the polytechnic. The case has been referred for further review, with a final decision expected at the 2027 AGM. Dr. Oluchukwu Abba was subsequently appointed as Acting Publicity Secretary.
The AGM also approved the dissolution of the existing Board of Trustees and the constitution of a new board, a move members said was necessary to reposition the association for better governance and stability.
Beyond the leadership shake-up, the alumni body adopted its constitution as its official working document, providing a legal framework for its operations, and approved a four-year tenure for elected executives. The current leadership will complete its remaining two years in line with the new provision.
Members also fixed annual dues at ₦2,500 and called for greater financial transparency, including improved access to financial reports and the exploration of additional revenue streams.
The meeting urged members to uphold discipline and avoid actions that could tarnish the association’s image, emphasising that the alumni body is not a pressure group.
Despite the internal restructuring, the AGM highlighted key achievements, including infrastructure support such as signposts and bus stops, student welfare interventions, job facilitation for members, and the installation of solar-powered boreholes facilitated by an alumnus in the House of Representatives.
The association also used the platform to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent to the bill addressing the HND/BSc dichotomy, recently passed by the National Assembly.
Reaffirming its commitment to the growth of the institution, the alumni body pledged continued support for development initiatives, mentorship programmes, and student welfare, even as it embarks on a new phase of internal reforms.
