Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has been linked to a reported meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Saudi Arabia, in what political observers say could signal early manoeuvres ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, the two political figures allegedly met during the lesser hajj (Umrah) period in March 2026 at a hotel in Mecca, where discussions reportedly centered on Nigeria’s political future and possible collaboration ahead of the next election cycle.
Sources claimed the meeting, said to have lasted about two hours, explored strategies aimed at reshaping the political landscape and potentially strengthening opposition efforts against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
It was further alleged that Governor Sule, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed willingness to support Atiku’s political ambitions and help mobilize votes in Nasarawa State, while also positioning himself for a senatorial run under the APC platform.
However, both camps have responded cautiously to the claims. Atiku’s media aide said he was unaware of such a meeting but confirmed that the former Vice President travelled to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj and has since returned.
Similarly, the Nasarawa State Governor’s office dismissed knowledge of the alleged meeting, though it confirmed that the governor was in Saudi Arabia during the same period for religious observances.
Despite the denials, reports suggest that both men were in Mecca around the same timeframe, fueling speculation about behind-the-scenes political consultations among key figures across party lines.
The development adds to growing political intrigue as attention gradually shifts toward 2027, with analysts noting that early alliances and alignments are already beginning to take shape behind the scenes.
