***Urges Region to Lead Nationwide Vote Tally
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) in the South-South to deliver the highest number of votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the party’s South-South Zonal Congress in Asaba, Delta State, Akpabio said the region must translate its growing political alignment into electoral dominance, stressing that unity within the zone should reflect in voting strength.
From Minority to Majority Bloc
Akpabio highlighted the APC’s expanding foothold in the region, noting that the party, which had only one governor in the South-South in 2023, now boasts all six.
He described the development as a significant political shift and a demonstration of confidence in the ruling party’s leadership and direction.
Reward for Loyalty
The Senate President commended the Tinubu administration for what he termed recognition of the South-South, pointing to his emergence as Senate President as evidence of inclusion.
He recalled that the last occupant of the office from the region was Joseph Wayas over 40 years ago, adding that the zone must reciprocate the gesture through electoral support.
“You cannot be at the table and carry last,” he said, urging party members to ensure the region leads in vote delivery.
Oborevwori Harps on Unity
Host governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, described the congress as a turning point for the APC in the South-South, noting that the convergence of all governors under one platform signals a new phase of political cohesion.
He called for sustained unity, urging party members to strengthen structures across wards and local governments while maintaining close ties with grassroots supporters.
Giadom Re-Elected as Zonal Chair
The congress also produced a new zonal executive through consensus, with Victor Giadom re-elected as National Vice Chairman (South-South).
Other officials elected include Dr Ita Udosen (Secretary), Barrister Safugha Newword (Legal Adviser), and Dr Samuel Nwanosike (Publicity Secretary), among others.
Strategic Positioning Ahead of 2027
Party leaders at the event emphasised that the South-South remains critical to national electoral calculations, expressing confidence that the APC’s strengthened presence in the region would play a decisive role in the 2027 polls.
The congress ended with renewed calls for cohesion, mobilisation and voter outreach as the party seeks to consolidate its gains and expand its influence nationwide.
