The Centre for Responsible Governance (CRG) has raised fresh alarm over what it describes as a politically driven attempt to destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that any convention process linked to suspended officials is unlawful and a threat to party order.
In a strongly worded statement, the group—through its spokesman Obande George—accused certain actors of engineering confusion within the party, allegedly backed by interests tied to Nyesom Wike.
At the centre of the storm is Samuel Anyanwu, whom CRG insists lacks legal standing following his suspension by the party’s National Working Committee in November 2025—a move later upheld by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Despite this, the organisation said Anyanwu has continued to present himself as a party official and allegedly engage the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on convention-related matters—actions CRG describes as “misleading” and a direct violation of the rule of law.
“The court has spoken. The suspension stands. Any move by those affected to act on behalf of the PDP is null and void,” the statement stressed.
CRG warned that attempts to organise party congresses or conventions outside recognised authority not only lack legitimacy but risk plunging the opposition party deeper into crisis.
It also flagged concerns over external political influence, noting that interference from powerful interests often exacerbates factional tensions and weakens institutional processes.
Calling for restraint, the group urged INEC to remain strictly guided by legality and avoid recognising communications from individuals without valid authority within the party.
Beyond the immediate dispute, CRG framed the situation as a broader test of Nigeria’s democratic resilience—where respect for judicial pronouncements and internal party rules must prevail over political manoeuvring.
As the PDP grapples with internal strains, the group’s message is pointed: unity must be rebuilt on the foundation of law, not factional intrigue.
