Ali Ndume Alleges Phone Surveillance, Questions Failure to Track Terrorists

Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has raised concerns over alleged surveillance of his phone by government agencies, questioning why similar efforts have not yielded results in tracking terrorists.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Ndume revealed that he had been repeatedly cautioned to be mindful of his phone conversations as they were being monitored.
“I have been warned several times to be careful about what I say on the phone because my conversations are being monitored,” he said.
The lawmaker expressed frustration that while security agencies appear capable of monitoring public figures, they seem unable to effectively track terrorists and bandits operating across the country.
He pointed to the growing trend of criminal elements openly sharing evidence of their activities on social media platforms, including TikTok, without apparent consequences.
“If someone like me can be monitored, then why can’t security agencies track terrorists? That is what confuses me,” Ndume queried.
According to him, the existence of advanced tracking systems raises serious questions about the effectiveness of Nigeria’s intelligence operations in tackling insecurity.
Despite his concerns, Ndume said he is not troubled by the alleged monitoring, insisting he has nothing to hide.
“I don’t have a problem with the government monitoring my phone. Nigeria is facing serious security challenges, but that is not the main issue,” he added.
The senator’s remarks come amid ongoing concerns over rising insecurity, particularly in the North-East, where insurgency and banditry continue to pose significant threats to lives and property.
