A House of Representatives aspirant for Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Suberu Yusuf John, has unveiled an ambitious development agenda, promising to reposition the constituency through people-centred leadership focused on accountability, inclusion, and grassroots impact.
Suberu, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Road Safety Matters, made the declaration during a well-attended ceremony at Ege Primary School field in Okehi Local Government Area.
The political scientist decried what he described as years of neglect in the constituency, lamenting that communities have often been remembered only during elections.
“It breaks my heart when I see our roads in terrible condition,” he said, while acknowledging recent efforts by the state government to address infrastructure deficits.
Blueprint for Development
Armed with academic credentials from the University of Abuja and Ambrose Alli University, Suberu outlined a comprehensive plan anchored on security, youth and women empowerment, education, infrastructure, and effective legislative representation.
“Today, with a full heart, I formally declare my intention to contest for the House of Representatives to serve the good people of Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency,” he said.
He urged leaders of the All Progressives Congress to prioritise competence and compassion in candidate selection, stressing that leadership must go beyond promises to deliver real change.
Immediate Impact: Scholarships, Food Support, Grants
In a show of early commitment, the aspirant announced scholarships for 40 indigent students across Adavi and Okehi, alongside the distribution of food items to about 1,500 residents.
He also provided financial support to 100 small-scale entrepreneurs to boost their businesses and distributed mobile phones to selected beneficiaries to enhance digital inclusion.
Describing the gesture as service-driven, Suberu said, “This is not about politics. It is about touching lives and building a better future.”
Endorsements and Growing Support
Speaking at the event, Yusuf Adebayo Ohiare, Special Adviser on Electronic Media to Governor Ododo, described the declaration as a turning point for the constituency.
“Suberu has a proven track record of service. His vision is to provide strong representation and attract meaningful development to Adavi/Okehi,” he said.
Also, Fatimat Abdulmalik, former Council Leader of Adavi Local Government, pledged support for the aspirant, citing his consistent assistance to vulnerable groups.
“Your interventions have restored hope to many families. We believe in your sincerity and capacity,” she said.
Momentum Builds
The event drew party loyalists, community leaders, youths, and women groups, signalling rising grassroots momentum ahead of the contest.
For many attendees, Suberu’s declaration marks not just the start of a political campaign, but a renewed call for responsive and impactful representation in Adavi/Okehi.
