Three police officers and a vigilante member have been killed in a deadly attack by suspected bandits in Tor Damisa village, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident through its spokesperson in the state, Victor Mshelizah, stating that the attack occurred after a distress call was received from a resident reporting bandit activity in the area.
According to the statement, a joint team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Donga, supported by special forces operatives, was swiftly deployed to repel the attackers. On arrival, the suspected bandits opened fire, triggering a gun duel between both sides.
Three officers—Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Police Constable Ebenezer Daniel, and Police Constable Samuel Bawa—were confirmed dead during the encounter. One of the officers, initially reported missing, was later found after a search operation.
Also killed was a 60-year-old vigilante leader, identified as Nutsa Tyav, whose body was recovered following the incident.
Security Reinforced in the Area
The Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, expressed grief over the loss of personnel and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
She assured residents that additional security measures have been deployed to restore calm and prevent further attacks, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and help strengthen security in the affected communities.
