U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed he is hearing reports that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, may no longer be alive, though he acknowledged there is no confirmed evidence.
Speaking in an interview with NBC News, Trump said the situation surrounding Mojtaba Khamenei’s status remains unclear.
“I’m hearing he’s not alive, and if he is, he should do something very smart for his country — and that’s surrender,” Trump said.
He added that no proof of life has been publicly presented so far.
“I don’t know if he’s even alive. So far, nobody’s been able to show him,” he said.
Trump also stated that Iran appears interested in negotiating a deal but insisted that the terms offered so far are not acceptable.
“Iran wants to make a deal, and I don’t want to make it because the terms aren’t good enough yet,” he said.
The former president further emphasized the importance of protecting global energy routes, particularly the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for international oil shipments.
“We’re going to be sweeping the strait very strongly, and we believe other countries affected by disruptions in oil supply will join us,” Trump said.
Iranian authorities have not issued any official confirmation regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s status, leaving the claims unverified.
