Security agencies in Anambra State have intensified operations across the state ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term in office.
The inauguration, scheduled for March 17, will take place at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, with top government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries expected to attend.
Security presence has already been heightened across the state capital and other strategic locations as authorities prepare to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free ceremony.
Governor Soludo secured a second term in office after winning the November 8, 2025 governorship election in what observers described as a landslide victory.
In preparation for the event, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have deployed additional personnel for surveillance, patrol and intelligence gathering across the state.
Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command had strengthened its security architecture in collaboration with other agencies to guarantee safety before, during and after the ceremony.
According to him, the police recently received 100 newly trained officers from the Police College Oji River who have undergone specialised armed and combat training.
“The command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has stepped up security advocacy, public sensitisation and operations across the state to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free event,” Ikenga said.
He explained that the officers would reinforce already deployed personnel stationed at critical locations while patrol operations and intelligence gathering had also been intensified.
The police also urged residents, stakeholders and visitors expected at the ceremony to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security operatives.
In a related development, the Anambra State Commandant of the NSCDC, Maku Olatunde, said the corps had mobilised personnel for both overt and covert operations to safeguard residents and critical infrastructure.
“The protection of Anambra residents and critical national assets and infrastructure is paramount to us. My operatives, both armed and those on covert duties, are ready to deliver on this national assignment,” he said.
Olatunde added that officers had been placed on round-the-clock surveillance across vulnerable locations to prevent criminals from exploiting the celebratory atmosphere.
“At this point, we cannot allow miscreants and vandals to take advantage of the celebration mood to perpetrate evil against the state and its inhabitants,” he said.
He also called on residents to come out and support the governor during the ceremony, assuring them that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee their safety.
