In a major political shake-up, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Announcing the decision, his media aide, Nuhu Anka, said the move came after extensive consultations with party leaders, elders, and supporters across the state.
“In the interest of stability, progress, and sustainable development for Zamfara, Governor Dauda Lawal has decided to formally join the APC,” the statement read.
The defection, Anka explained, was influenced by ongoing crises and leadership disputes within the PDP at both national and state levels—issues that could hinder effective governance and the delivery of services to the people.
The decision was finalized at a high-profile meeting at the Government House, Gusau, attended by top officials and political stakeholders under the coordination of the Deputy Governor.
Lawal expressed gratitude to PDP members for their support but stressed that aligning with the APC would strengthen unity, enhance cooperation with the Federal Government, and accelerate development and security initiatives in Zamfara.
The governor is expected to run for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
