Bamidele Targets 10m South-West Votes for Tinubu Ahead of 2027

The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has unveiled an ambitious plan to mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the South-West in the build-up to the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
Bamidele, who also serves as Chairman of the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Election Campaign Council, disclosed the plan during the inauguration of the 57-member campaign council in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the June 20 Ekiti governorship election would serve as a critical political test ahead of the national polls, describing it as a referendum on the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
According to the Senate Leader, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is confident of securing a decisive victory in the election, citing what he described as Oyebanji’s record of governance and development in the state.
“Governor Oyebanji has steered the state with vision, courage and unwavering commitment to the welfare of over 3.8 million residents,” Bamidele said.
He praised the governor’s projects and programmes, describing them as unprecedented in Ekiti’s history, and predicted what he called a “walkover” victory for the APC at the polls.
Bamidele also stressed the importance of aggressive voter mobilisation ahead of both the governorship election and the 2027 presidential race.
He urged party members and residents to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and ensure full participation in the electoral process.
According to him, Ekiti State currently has about 987,647 registered voters, a figure he said the party hopes to significantly increase before the end of the registration exercise.
“Ekiti currently has 987,647 registered voters. By August 2026, we aim to increase enrolment by 50 per cent. Mobilising voters is crucial for Oyebanji’s re-election and securing South-West support for Tinubu,” he said.
Bamidele also pledged to lead the campaign council with discipline and commitment, expressing confidence that the APC would secure at least a 90 per cent landslide victory in Ekiti.
He further called for unity within the party, stressing that teamwork and internal harmony would be critical to achieving both the governorship victory and the broader political objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding, Governor Oyebanji thanked Bamidele for accepting to lead the campaign council and for his continued support for his administration.
The governor said his campaign would be issue-based and focused on development plans and policy achievements rather than personal attacks on political opponents.
He also urged all candidates and political parties participating in the election to strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 to ensure a peaceful, credible and transparent poll.
