Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and an alleged member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during an operation in Enugu State.
The suspects, identified as Sabastine Odo Odam and Ejike Daniel, were apprehended on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Eha-Amufu and Umuhu communities in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A security source said the arrests followed months of intelligence gathering on the activities of the suspects in the area.
According to the source, the arrests were linked to a series of violent attacks on police stations and killings recorded in Isi-Uzo LGA between 2024 and 2026.
The source added that the suspects allegedly confessed to masterminding several attacks on security formations and the looting of weapons.
Among the incidents cited were the February 26 killing of 11 labourers and the deaths of five policemen in separate attacks between December 24, 2025, and January 26, 2026.
Security officials described the arrests as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb violent activities in the Southeast.
Residents of the affected communities reportedly welcomed the development, expressing hope that the arrests would help restore peace in the area after months of fear and tension.
The suspects are currently in DSS custody and are expected to be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded.
