Presidency Dismisses Viral Video Alleging Plot to Poison Tinubu

The Presidency has dismissed as false a viral video alleging that a chef attached to the Presidential Villa was arrested over an alleged plot to poison President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The video, which circulated widely across social media platforms over the weekend, claimed that security operatives apprehended a member of the presidential kitchen staff following intelligence reports of suspicious activities linked to food preparation within restricted areas of the Villa.
It further alleged that a special police squad was deployed and that security around the Presidential Villa was tightened after what it described as credible threats to the President’s safety. According to the circulating claims, the unnamed kitchen staff was taken into custody while authorities examined evidence related to an alleged poisoning attempt.
However, reacting to inquiries, the Presidency categorically debunked the report.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the video as “fake news,” insisting that the story was entirely fabricated.
He urged members of the public to disregard the claims and rely only on verified information from official communication channels.
The Presidency warned that the spread of unsubstantiated reports, particularly those bordering on national security, could create unnecessary panic and mislead the public.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the rapid spread of misinformation on social media, especially involving high-profile public officials and security matters.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no indication of any such incident at the Presidential Villa, and no security alert had been issued by relevant authorities.
