The Federal Government has urged Nigerians living in Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries to exercise heightened caution as military tensions escalate in the region.
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said it is closely monitoring reports of strikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets, along with Iran’s retaliatory attacks across the Gulf.
Nigerians living abroad are urged to exercise caution by avoiding military and government installations, limiting non-essential travel, steering clear of public gatherings and demonstrations, and following instructions from local authorities. To support citizens during this period, diplomatic missions—including the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran and consular offices in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia—have been placed on high alert to provide assistance and guidance where needed.

The government emphasised that citizens’ safety remains a top priority and called on all parties to de-escalate hostilities and return to diplomacy.
The advisory follows reports of airstrikes in Iranian cities, with explosions and smoke observed in the capital. While U.S. and Israeli officials framed the actions as preventive and security measures, international bodies including the African Union and European Union have urged restraint to prevent further regional instability.
