The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutse (FUD), Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, has announced a comprehensive plan to introduce new, technology-driven degree programmes as part of a far-reaching academic reform agenda for the institution.
Speaking during an interactive session with university staff, Professor Gumel outlined a strategic roadmap designed to reposition FUD for greater national relevance and global competitiveness in an increasingly digital world.
Central to the reform is the introduction of cutting-edge programmes such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, Networking, and Cloud Computing. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that curriculum renewal is essential for universities seeking to remain relevant in the 21st century.
He noted that the institution will review and modernize its academic offerings to align with benchmarks set by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and reflect global trends in digital transformation, research innovation, and modern pedagogy.
“As technology reshapes industries and economies, universities must respond with programmes that anticipate the future,” he said. “Our responsibility is to equip students with skills that are practical, competitive, and aligned with market realities.”
In addition to technology-focused courses, the university plans to introduce programmes in Project Management, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Geology, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Community Health, Science Education, and Business Education.
Professor Gumel described the initiative as a key pillar of his “Vision 2030” blueprint, aimed at transforming FUD into a nationally and globally competitive university recognized for academic excellence, innovation, and impactful research.
“Our objective is clear — to produce graduates who are not only employable but capable of creating jobs and driving economic growth,” he stated. “Achieving this will require innovation, adaptability, and collective commitment to reform.”
He called on academic staff to embrace the coming changes, highlighting the importance of curriculum enhancement, expanded research output, and strategic partnerships that will elevate the university’s profile.
Expressing optimism about the institution’s prospects, the Vice-Chancellor affirmed that FUD has both the intellectual capacity and institutional resolve to compete with leading universities, provided it sustains quality programmes, groundbreaking research, and productive collaborations.
With the planned rollout of these forward-looking academic offerings, Federal University Dutse is positioning itself at the forefront of higher education transformation, ready to meet the evolving demands of a technology-driven global economy.
