Obidient Movement Rejects AMAC Results, Calls for Probe into Alleged Irregularities

The Obidient Movement has faulted the outcome of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election held on February 21, alleging widespread irregularities, voter suppression, and violence.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the group said it had mobilized extensively in support of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr. Moses Paul (Dr. Mo), describing the campaign as a unifying platform for residents seeking change in the council.
According to the Movement, confusion over the restructuring of polling units by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) contributed to low voter turnout.
It claimed that many voters were unable to locate their designated polling centres due to inadequate information, resulting in frustration and disengagement.
The group also referenced the role of Peter Obi, stating that his call for supporters to participate energized parts of the electorate and contributed to what it described as a slight improvement in turnout compared to previous FCT area council elections.
Despite its optimism going into the poll, the Movement alleged that the process was undermined by intimidation and targeted harassment of its agents. It further raised concerns over reported violence in some locations.
Particularly, the Movement drew attention to the death of one of its polling agents, Mr. Musa Abubakar (Dege), at Gwagwa. While details surrounding the incident remain subject to investigation, the group described the development as tragic and called for a thorough probe to establish the circumstances and ensure accountability.
The Obidient Movement rejected the declared results and called for a comprehensive and transparent review of the election. It urged security agencies to investigate all allegations of violence and misconduct associated with the poll.
“This is bigger than AMAC,” the group stated. “It is about safeguarding democratic values and restoring public confidence in the electoral process.”
The press conference was addressed by Dr. Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Globally, who appealed to civil society organisations, democratic institutions, and the wider public to support efforts aimed at strengthening electoral integrity and protecting citizens’ rights.
