Farmers–Herdsmen Clash: Ukomu Igala Organization Calls for Urgent Peace in Ibaji

The Ukomu Igala Organization (UIO) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent violent clashes between farmers and herdsmen in Ejule-Ojebe town, Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, which reportedly claimed lives, left several persons missing, and led to the destruction of farmlands, crops, and cattle.
In a press release signed by its National Leader, James A. Ataguba (Rtd), Ph.D, the organization described the incident as tragic and avoidable, urging all parties involved to immediately lay down their arms and embrace peaceful dialogue.
UIO extended heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones and sympathized with those whose means of livelihood were affected by the violence.
The group called on the Kogi State Government to intervene swiftly to halt further bloodshed and prevent the crisis from escalating. It also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to act decisively in restoring law and order, while taking proactive steps to forestall reprisal attacks.
Beyond the immediate crisis, the organization highlighted the long-standing socio-economic difficulties facing Ibaji Local Government Area. According to the statement, years of infrastructural neglect, environmental degradation, and limited economic opportunities—particularly in farming and fishing—have deepened communal tensions and made the area vulnerable to recurring conflicts.
UIO urged both the Kogi State Government and the Federal Government to investigate the root causes of the repeated clashes and implement sustainable measures that would promote lasting peace and development in Ibaji.
Residents of the area were advised to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and unity, the organization prayed for comfort for the bereaved families and called for collective efforts to prevent further loss of lives in the affected community.
