The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2026 Bwari Area Council chairmanship election, delivering a decisive victory at the polls.
Announcing the results on Sunday in Bwari, the Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, confirmed that Ishaku polled 18,466 votes across the council’s 10 wards to emerge victorious.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Joshua Ishaku is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Nurudeen stated during the official declaration.
The margin of victory underscored APC’s dominance in the contest. The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured 4,254 votes to place second, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate finished third with 3,515 votes.
Voting took place across Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central and Kawu wards, with collation completed before the final announcement.
Political observers say the outcome reinforces APC’s foothold in Bwari and strengthens its position within the Federal Capital Territory’s local government structure. The election formed part of the February 21, 2026, FCT Area Council polls.
With the contest settled, expectations are already shifting toward governance, as residents look to the incoming chairman to deliver on campaign promises and address development priorities across Bwari’s growing communities.
