SDP Concludes High-Energy Campaign, Pushes Inclusive Leadership Agenda for AMAC

With just 24 hours to the 2026 Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) elections, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has wrapped up an energetic campaign with a resounding call for inclusive and people-driven leadership.
At a vibrant grand finale rally in Apo, the party’s chairmanship candidate, Dr. Obinna Simon, told a massive crowd that AMAC deserves a government that works for everyone — regardless of tribe, religion, or origin.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Whether you were born here or came from elsewhere, we are one family,” Simon declared. “Everyone contributes to the growth of this city, and leadership must reflect that unity.”
He pledged that if elected, his administration would ensure balanced development across all wards, focusing on infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and improved social services. According to him, governance under the SDP would prioritize fairness and community inclusion.
Simon’s campaign tour had spanned major districts within the council, featuring roadshows, town hall meetings, and direct engagement with residents. The strategy, party officials said, was designed to reconnect leadership with grassroots realities. Supporters at the rally expressed confidence in the SDP ticket, promising to translate their enthusiasm into votes.
The rally also featured strong political statements from the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adeboye, who criticized what he described as undue interference in the electoral process by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
“A statement was made that a winner has already been chosen,” Adeboye told the crowd. “But in a democracy, it is the people who choose their leaders. No individual has the power to override the will of the citizens.”
He further criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging governance lapses and unfulfilled reform promises, including the implementation of electronic voting. According to him, Nigerians must use their votes to demand accountability and protect democratic values.
Vice Chairmanship candidate Mrs. Georginia Ngufa Jogo reinforced the party’s mobilization drive, urging residents to participate actively in the electoral process.
“Your index finger is powerful,” she said. “Use it to vote for leadership that truly represents you. Democracy begins at the grassroots.”
Also present at the rally were top party figures, including National Chairman Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Gombe, Deputy National Chairman Senator Ugochukwu Uba, and former Minister of Power Dr. Olu Agunloye — a show of solidarity underscoring the party’s determination to secure victory in AMAC.
As residents prepare to head to the polls, the SDP’s closing rally has positioned the election as more than a routine local contest. Party leaders framed it as a defining moment for voters to assert their democratic rights and choose leadership free from external influence.
With campaigns concluded and momentum building, attention now turns to Saturday’s vote — when the people of AMAC will decide the direction of their council and whether the SDP’s promise of inclusive governance will take shape.
