The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has marked the first anniversary of the passing of Chief Edwin K. Clark, describing the late statesman as a “national icon” whose vision and contributions to Nigeria and the Niger Delta will echo for generations.
Chief Clark, who died at 98, dedicated his life to public service, regional development, and national unity. His final words—“I am a Nigeria, I love Nigeria”—continue to reflect his unwavering patriotism and lifelong commitment to the nation.
At a Special Memorial Service held on Monday at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, PANDEF members, dignitaries, and leaders of the Niger Delta reflected on his decades of leadership, mentorship, and advocacy. They highlighted his role in shaping policies that strengthened the region’s voice within Nigeria’s national discourse.
Ambassador Dr. Godknows Igali, PANDEF’s National Chairman, described Chief Clark as “a lionhearted statesman whose courage, vision, and integrity were unmatched. His dedication to the unity and development of the Niger Delta and the nation will continue to inspire Nigerians for generations.”
In a tribute he personally signed, Dr. Igali called Chief Clark a transformative force in regional and national politics, whose mentorship of young leaders left a lasting imprint. “His advocacy for truth, justice, and fairness touched every corner of his life—from politics to community development,” he said. “Even a year after his passing, his presence is still felt. His vision lives on, and his ideals continue to guide us.”
Chief Clark’s influence went beyond politics. He was a champion of dialogue, education, and regional empowerment. Edwin Clark University stands as a lasting testament to his commitment to learning and the upliftment of the Niger Delta.
As Nigeria remembers his contributions, PANDEF urged leaders at all levels to emulate his integrity, service, and devotion to the common good.
