INEC Unveils 2027 Election Timetable, Sets February 20 for Presidential Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially unveiled the timetable for the 2027 general elections, fixing February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly polls.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the dates on Friday while addressing journalists in Abuja, signaling the formal kickoff of preparations for Nigeria’s next electoral cycle.
He said the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections will take place on March 6, 2027, exactly two weeks after the federal contests.
The staggered schedule follows Nigeria’s established electoral sequence, allowing the electoral body to focus resources and logistics separately on federal and state elections.
With the timetable now public, political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders are expected to intensify consultations, coalition talks, and internal processes ahead of the critical polls that will determine Nigeria’s next set of leaders.
