Residents of Ejule community in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State have sounded the alarm over the abduction of 10 passengers by armed men along the Aloma-Ejule highway.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were seized on February 9, 2026, around 5 p.m., after gunmen set up roadblocks along the route. The assailants targeted three vehicles—a Siena bus, a Honda Accord, and a Jeep—heading toward Enugu State from Ejule.
Of the abducted, four passengers were in the Siena bus, three in the Honda Accord, and three in the Jeep. Others who narrowly escaped the attack sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving treatment at the Comprehensive Hospital in Alloma.
Security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, police, and local vigilante groups, have launched a joint operation to track down the kidnappers. Concerned residents have urged the Kogi State government to deploy recently acquired surveillance drones to aid in locating the victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
Attempts to reach the Kogi State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, as calls to the office of the Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, went unanswered.
The incident highlights persistent security challenges along key highways in Kogi State and raises urgent questions about protection for travellers. Local communities are calling for stronger patrols, rapid response mechanisms, and proactive measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
