UN, US, Turkey Condemn Deadly Kwara Attacks

The United Nations, the United States, and Turkey have strongly condemned the recent attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara State, which left at least 75 people dead and dozens injured. Shops and the residence of a traditional ruler were destroyed, forcing residents to flee for safety.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the assault “terrorist” and expressed his sympathy: “My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of Nigeria. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
The US Mission in Nigeria described the violence as “horrific” and welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces and provide aid to affected communities. Turkey also condemned the attacks, pledging continued support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq called it a “pure massacre” and confirmed that at least 75 victims have been buried. He also announced Operation Shield Savannah, a new security initiative to protect residents.
The Nigerian Police Force has launched a manhunt for the attackers, while political groups, including the Northern States Governors’ Forum and a faction of the PDP, denounced the killings as “barbaric” and a grim reminder of rising insecurity in the region.
