Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday said the nation is proud of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, citing his inclusive leadership style and commitment to development.
Shettima made the remarks in Jalingo during the official defection of Governor Kefas to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a positive step for both Taraba State and the country.
According to the Vice President, the APC was established as a broad platform for development-minded leaders, adding that Kefas’ decision to join the party reflects shared values and vision.
“Nations endure when they acknowledge their strengths. Taraba State is an integral part of Nigeria, blessed with enormous potential for national development,” Shettima said.
He described the governor’s entry into the APC as a moment of pride, expressing optimism that neighbouring states such as Adamawa and Bauchi would soon follow suit.
“We welcome our brother home because he has always been with us. Governor Kefas has shown a clear understanding of Taraba’s diversity and is working hard to keep the state united despite its differences,” he added.
Shettima urged party members and residents to rally behind the governor to accelerate development, stressing that Kefas is now the undisputed leader of the APC in Taraba State.
In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwada, described the governor’s defection as a strategic gain for Taraba.
“Joining the APC is the best decision for Taraba State. The state is richly endowed, and this alignment will help unlock its full potential,” Yilwada said, assuring both old and new members of equal rights and opportunities within the party.
Responding, Governor Kefas said his decision to join the APC was driven solely by the interests of the people of Taraba State.
“This is a mission, not an ambition. We did not shift for power but for purpose—to deliver development that will improve the lives of our people,” he stated.
The governor pledged fairness, inclusivity, and continuity in governance, noting that his administration would focus on redefining Taraba’s future.
“In President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I see a leader who understands governance and knows how to get things done. Taraba State is open for development,” Kefas declared.
