The Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission has reported that 155 personnel died while in active service in 2025.
The Executive Chairman, DIG (Rtd) Uba Bala Ringim, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the commission’s annual performance. According to him, 72 deaths occurred across the 27 local government councils, while 83 personnel died under the Local Education Authorities.
Despite the losses, Ringim highlighted notable achievements in staff welfare and development. 1,682 workers were promoted, and 178 personnel participated in training programs to enhance efficiency and service delivery at the grassroots.
He added that 163 staff benefited from capacity-building initiatives across the local councils, while 15 officers attended professional conferences and courses in Abuja, Kaduna, and at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.
The commission also paid over N58.5 million in training allowances to 658 eligible officers and organised a special in-service programme for sanitary overseers, selecting two officers from each council (54 participants) for studies at the Jigawa State College of Health Technology, Jahun.
Project allowances were paid to 152 staff enrolled in sponsored academic programmes, including MSc, BSc, HND, and Diploma courses, recognising their contributions to development projects.
On workforce exits, 1,332 workers retired in 2025, with 628 from local councils and 704 from Local Education Authorities. Ringim noted that frequent retirements without prompt replacement, alongside delays in filling vacancies created by deaths, remain key challenges affecting administrative capacity.
