Residents of Kano State have been plunged into deep shock and grief following a violent attack that claimed the lives of a mother and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of the state capital.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed that the victims — identified as 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her six children — were killed on Saturday when suspected hoodlums invaded their residence in broad daylight.
According to police authorities, the attackers forcibly gained entry into the family’s home and carried out the assault before fleeing the scene.
The identities of the perpetrators remain unknown.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement indicated the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. reporting the incident at the residence of Haruna Bashir.
He explained that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, immediately deployed officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.
The victims were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that they were dead on arrival.
CSP Kiyawa added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to launch a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police command expressed condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the people of Kano State, assuring the public that all necessary efforts are being made to ensure justice is served.
The tragic incident has renewed concerns over security challenges in the state, coming shortly after another reported case in which a volunteer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was allegedly killed in a separate incident involving hoodlums.
