The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Friday inaugurated newly appointed chairmen and members of various committees and commissions, charging them to serve the state with integrity, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to results.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the EXCO Chambers of Government House, Jalingo, Governor Kefas stressed that the commissions and committees were not established as ceremonial bodies, but as instruments for real and measurable development capable of improving the lives of the people.
He noted that development commissions must play a pivotal role in promoting peace, food security, and economic growth across all sectors of the state.
The governor urged the appointees to work closely with local communities, traditional institutions, farmers, and security agencies to ensure that development initiatives promote quality growth rather than trigger conflict.
According to him, infrastructure development must be people-centred, adding that projects should be designed to improve lives and not merely to generate publicity.
Governor Kefas emphasized that compassion must reflect in every policy and programme, ensuring that all sectors of the state feel a sense of inclusion and belonging.
Addressing the leadership of the proposed Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Action, the governor called for excellence in research and innovation, noting that the institution must provide practical solutions that will transform agriculture, enhance climate resilience, and prepare young people for future challenges.
He further charged the chairman and members of the technical committee to ensure the successful transition of the initiative into a full-fledged university that Nigeria would be proud of.
On the Public Health and Environmental Sustainability Committee, Governor Kefas reiterated the importance of cleanliness and environmental restoration as foundations for healthy living.
He recalled the remarks made by the First Lady and wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during her visit to the state last year, which underscored the need for inclusiveness, sanitation, and the safety of workers.
“Public office is not a privilege but a demanding responsibility and a sacrifice to humanity. Your performance will be measured by outcomes and solutions, not speeches or excuses,” the governor said.
He emphasized justice, fairness, transparency, discipline, and integrity as core values expected of all appointees.
“I did not appoint you to work in isolation. You are expected to complement one another. Our target is simple: results that the people can see and feel,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Hon. Danladi Baido, former Member of the House of Representatives for Karim-Lamido, Ardo-Kola and Lau Federal Constituency, thanked Governor Kefas for the confidence reposed in them.
Baido, who chairs the Taraba State Emergency Implementation Committee for Infrastructure and Human Services, pledged the loyalty of the appointees to the governor and assured that the committees and commissions would operate with accountability, fairness, and a strong sense of responsibility to justify the trust placed in them.
