The Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) has commended recent security gains recorded in Kogi State, describing ongoing coordinated operations by security agencies as encouraging and reassuring.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Executive Director of CHRCR, Idris Miliki Abdul, said reports of successful security operations across the state reflect the growing effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and strategic coordination.
According to him, the improved outcomes are the result of sustained synergy among security institutions, driven by the coordinating roles of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the guidance of the State Security Adviser.
While applauding these developments, Abdul stressed that security remains a shared responsibility and warned that force alone cannot resolve Nigeria’s complex security challenges. He noted that violent extremism, which continues to pose threats in parts of Kogi State and across the country, requires a broader response rooted in community engagement and resilience.
“Security challenges—particularly violent extremism—cannot be addressed by force alone. They demand stronger community resilience, grassroots participation, and trust-based engagement between citizens and security institutions,” he said.
The CHRCR Executive Director called on all stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organisations, and local communities, to deepen collaboration and embrace community-centred approaches that empower citizens as active partners in peacebuilding and security management.
He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently approve the validated National Policy Framework on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), noting that its approval would provide clear policy direction and enable states to develop context-specific strategies tailored to their unique security realities.
Abdul concluded that sustainable peace and security can only be achieved through coordinated action, inclusive governance, and policies that place communities at the heart of security solutions.
CHRCR is a civil society organisation focused on human rights promotion, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding across Nigeria.
