The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh, describing it as “unnecessary, destabilising, and politically motivated.”
Speaking through the party’s spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, the APC acknowledged the legislature’s independence but stressed that no political pressure should be allowed to derail an APC-led government.
“We will not stand by while partisan conflicts threaten governance and development in our state,” Nwauju said.
The impeachment notices, read during a plenary presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, cite allegations including the demolition of the Assembly complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding funds from the Assembly Service Commission, and alleged defiance of a Supreme Court ruling on legislative financial autonomy.
A separate notice targets Deputy Governor Oduh.
The APC countered claims that the issue relates to budgetary disagreements, noting that the 2025 ₦1.485 trillion budget was properly approved and remains valid until August 2026. The party insisted that the governor’s decisions fall within constitutional boundaries.
This is the second impeachment attempt against Fubara and Oduh following political tensions with former Governor Nyesom Wike that triggered a six-month presidential intervention in 2025.
APC urged lawmakers to abandon the process, warning that continued political friction could undermine the party’s image and stall the state’s progress.
