The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM) have acknowledged the far-reaching reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which are steadily repositioning Nigeria’s oil and gas sector for stability, growth and shared prosperity.
National President, HOSTCOM, His Highness Dr. Benjamin Style Tamaranebi, in a statement on Wednesday said the association recognized that President Tinubu inherited an oil industry burdened by crude oil theft, collapsing infrastructure, environmental devastation and declining investor confidence. Through deliberate policy choices, firm political will and effective institutional coordination, the administration has begun reversing these damaging trends.
“A major pillar of this turnaround is the restoration of security around oil assets. The deployment of Tantita Security Services Limited, working with national security agencies, has drastically reduced oil theft, illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism. This intervention has helped stabilise crude oil production, recover lost revenues and restore confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.
“Equally significant is the effective implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which under President Tinubu has moved from paper to practice. Through Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs), oil-producing communities have accessed over ₦300 billion within three years, empowering communities to determine and execute development projects that address infrastructure, healthcare, education and human capital needs.”
HOSTCOM also commendd the President for appointing capable professionals to drive reforms. The leadership of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, PhD, as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), has brought renewed clarity and discipline to the sector.
According to the statement, the appointment of Mrs. Eritsemeyiwa Eyesan as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) further underscored the administration’s commitment to competence, transparency and trust-building with host communities.
“These reforms signal a clear departure from years of neglect and uncertainty, placing host communities at the centre of Nigeria’s energy future rather than on its margins. While the reforms have required difficult adjustments, HOSTCOM urges Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, noting that sustainable transformation cannot occur without sacrifice and stability.”
In light of these measurable gains, HOSTCOM, together with its Grand Patron, High Chief (Dr.) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tonpolo), and host communities across Nigeria’s oil- and gas-producing regions, expressed full confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda.
“We call on all stakeholders to give peace a chance, safeguard national assets, and support policies that are restoring Nigeria’s oil sector and delivering long-overdue development to host communities.”
