The Kogi Elders’ Forum, a socio-cultural and political advocacy group, has called on the Federal Government to confirm Dr. Ojochide Sunday Ebune as the substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Lokoja.
The call was made during a visit by the Forum to the hospital, where leaders commended Dr. Ebune’s achievements in his first six months at the helm of the institution.
Led by its Chairman, Dr. (Chief) Julius Elukpo, the Forum highlighted a “renewed sense of purpose and direction” under Dr. Ebune’s leadership. Elukpo praised the Acting CMD’s vision of building a staff‑centric, patient‑focused institution delivering quality services, training, and research.
He outlined Dr. Ebune’s five core policy thrusts: ensuring uninterrupted services, minimizing redundancy, strengthening operational efficiency, adopting data-driven decision-making, and accelerating the transition to digital and renewable energy solutions.
The Forum noted significant improvements since Dr. Ebune assumed office, including:
Restoration of calm and order within the hospital
Enhanced emergency response and diagnostic services
Upgrades to infrastructure, including solar power installations and backup systems
Strengthened staff welfare, training, and professional development
Expanded laboratory, radiology, and dialysis services, including a new CT scan centre
Re‑accreditation of residency training departments and increased internship slots
Elukpo also commended the supportive role of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
He urged the Federal Government to confirm Dr. Ebune to consolidate and expand these reforms for the benefit of Kogi State and the nation.
In his response, Dr. Ebune thanked the Forum for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to leading a reputable, efficient, and patient-centered hospital.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to mobilize resources, enhance ICT usage, and maintain effective stakeholder engagement.
Other notable Forum members, including Elder Seyi, Dr. Victor Ibrahim, and Hon. Mrs. Gloria Ategbe, also praised Dr. Ebune for restoring efficient service delivery and urged him to sustain the reforms.
In her vote of thanks, Dr. Patricia Medupin described the Forum’s visit as a morale booster and a fitting way to conclude 2025, expressing gratitude for their continued support to the hospital.
