In a heartwarming gesture to honor Nigeria’s frontline soldiers, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, hosted a special Christmas luncheon for troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA at Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto State, on Thursday.
The event aimed to boost morale and recognize the dedication and sacrifices of personnel stationed in the North-West during the festive period.
During the visit, General Oluyede praised the troops for their courage, discipline, and commitment, highlighting their critical role in stabilizing the region and restoring public confidence amid ongoing security challenges. He urged continued collaboration with other security agencies, government authorities, and local communities to sustain peace and ensure operational success.
“The welfare of our personnel remains a top priority,” the CDS said. “We are committed to improving living conditions, healthcare, and family support for all our troops.” He also warned against complacency during the holiday season, calling for heightened vigilance against criminal threats.
Lieutenant General Shaibu described the Christmas luncheon as a long-standing tradition, designed to honor the resilience of deployed soldiers and remember fallen heroes. He reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, combat-ready, and welfare-driven force, while wishing all troops a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2026.
The gathering also served as a reminder of the continuous support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for military operations across the country.
