The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has expressed profound grief over the bomb explosion that disrupted evening prayers at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, resulting in the loss of lives and injuries to several worshippers.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Forum conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the injured worshippers, and the broader Maiduguri community. The senators described the incident as a tragic and painful act, pledging solidarity with the Government and people of Borno State in the face of the tragedy.
The Forum lamented the loss of lives and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of those currently receiving medical attention. It also took note of ongoing investigations by security agencies, which have indicated that the blast was likely caused by a suicide device detonated during prayers.
While commending the prompt response and efforts of the police and other security agencies, the Northern Senators Forum called on residents to maintain close cooperation with security operatives to strengthen the protection of places of worship and other public spaces.
Reiterating its commitment to peace and security across the region, the Forum assured that it would continue to engage with federal and state authorities to bolster preventive measures, enhance intelligence gathering, and ensure comprehensive support for victims and survivors of violent attacks in Northern communities.
The statement concluded with prayers for the departed souls, asking Almighty Allah to grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, console the bereaved families, and restore enduring peace and security to all affected areas.
