Akpabio Optimistic Nigeria Will Defeat Banditry in 2026

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome banditry and other security threats in 2026, urging citizens to remain united and steadfast in the pursuit of peace and national cohesion.
Akpabio spoke during a prayer and fasting service organised for the Akpabio family at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He called on Nigerians to rise above political, ethnic, and religious divisions, stressing that peace remains the foundation upon which meaningful development can be achieved.
“As we approach the new year, I wish Nigerians peace, prosperity, and renewed hope. I strongly believe that 2026 will mark a turning point in our collective fight against insecurity,” the Senate President said.
Drawing inspiration from the Christmas season, Akpabio described the birth of Jesus Christ as a symbol of redemption and renewal, expressing faith that Nigeria would emerge victorious over banditry and insurgency.
“The birth of Christ represents redemption for mankind. In the same spirit, Nigeria will experience redemption from banditry, insurgency, and all forms of insecurity in the year ahead and beyond,” he stated.
The Senate President urged Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that sustained cooperation with international partners would further enhance Nigeria’s capacity to confront security challenges.
He also emphasised the role of strong family values in fostering peace and national stability, adding that unity at the grassroots level is essential for long-term progress.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, encouraged members of the Akpabio family to continue to live in harmony and support one another.
Also speaking, the head of the Greater Akpabio Family, Chief Ekan Akpabio, appealed to family members to stand firmly behind Senator Akpabio, describing him as a worthy representative of the family, Essien Udim, and Akwa Ibom State. He further urged politically exposed family members to remain connected to their roots and serve with humility.
The annual December 26 prayer and fasting service provides an avenue for the Akpabio family to express gratitude to God and to offer prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
