Ododo clares the air over proclamation to reinforce security, curb criminalities

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has clarified that his recent Executive Proclamation on security protocols is not a state of emergency, but a set of proactive measures aimed at reinforcing security across the state and curbing criminal activities.
According to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, the proclamation is a lawful constitutional step to improve coordination among security agencies while safeguarding the rights and freedoms of residents.
Governor Ododo stressed that the measures are within his powers as Chief Security Officer of the state, under Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and are designed to enhance collaboration, strengthen intelligence, and protect lives and property.

Key components of the proclamation include:

Verification of security personnel

Mandatory identification checks

Strict prosecution of anyone aiding or abetting criminals, including bandits and terrorists

The Governor highlighted that the initiative also targets the growing threat of fake security operatives and aims to tighten Kogi’s overall security architecture.

He issued a stern warning: individuals or groups supporting criminal activities will be treated as enemies of the state and prosecuted under applicable laws. Additionally, any property used in the commission of crimes will be forfeited to the state government, in line with the Kogi State Anti-Kidnapping, Robbery and Terrorism Law of 2016.
Governor Ododo expressed appreciation to security agencies for their efforts and reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to peace and public safety.
The proclamation follows the recent recovery of a large cache of weapons by security operatives acting on intelligence, prompting the rollout of these strengthened protocols to ensure Kogi remains secure for all citizens.
