Lokoja–Ajaokuta Accident Claims Four Lives, Seven Injured

A tragic motor accident on the Lokoja–Ajaokuta road in Kogi State has claimed the lives of four people, while seven others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
The incident, confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), occurred on Sunday at Jimgbe Community, involving an 18-seater Toyota commercial bus with Abuja registration number ABC 232 XA, which was en route from Enugu to Abuja.
According to Mr. Tenimu Etuku, the state Sector Commander of FRSC, the accident happened when the bus driver attempted to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck. In the process, the vehicle collided with a stationary, faulty truck on the highway.
Etuku described the incident as “very unfortunate” and used the opportunity to remind motorists of the dangers of complacency on the road.
“There is a big difference between a free motoring environment and a safe motoring environment. Drivers must always stay alert while on highways,” he advised.
The FRSC responded promptly, rescuing the injured and conveying them to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the four deceased victims were also deposited at the hospital morgue.
The Sector Commander emphasized that highway safety requires vigilance at all times, stressing that accidents of this nature are often preventable with careful driving and adherence to road safety regulations.
Motorists traveling on the Lokoja–Ajaokuta corridor have been urged to exercise caution, drive at safe speeds, and be attentive to road conditions, particularly in areas with stationary vehicles or poor visibility.
The FRSC has assured the public that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing and that findings will be used to enhance safety measures along the state’s highways.
