Natasha Consoles Abonyi Family, Describes Late Senator as Trailblazer

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has described the late Senator Isah Obaro Abonyi as a political pathfinder whose footprints will remain deeply etched in the history of Kogi Central.
The Kogi Central lawmaker spoke when she paid a condolence visit to the Abonyi family on Sunday, offering words of comfort and prayers as they mourn the passing of the 90-year-old elder statesman.
Akpoti-Uduaghan said Senator Abonyi’s death is a heavy blow not just to Kogi Central but to Kogi State and Nigeria at large, noting that his integrity, courage, and statesmanship set a standard for public service in his era and beyond.
She encouraged the family to take solace in the fulfilled and impactful life he lived, recalling his role in shaping the political landscape when he represented the then Okene/Okehi constituency—today’s Kogi Central—in the Senate in 1979.
Born on August 20, 1934, in Okene, Senator Isah Obaro Abonyi remained a revered voice of wisdom throughout his lifetime, earning respect across generations until his passing.
