Security forces in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have successfully disrupted a planned kidnapping, killing three suspected criminals and recovering weapons and ammunition during a precision operation.
The FCT Police Command said the operation was prompted by a series of recent abductions in communities including ACO, Gwagwalada, and Bwari. Acting on credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to dismantle the gang before they could strike again.
On November 30, police apprehended Sani Mohammed Umar, also known as “Boko,” a key suspect in several kidnappings and armed robberies across Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali. His mobile phone, believed to have been used to coordinate the gang’s operations, was seized. Investigations revealed that other gang members had gathered at Gada Biyu Hills, Kwali, to carry out another attack.
Police operatives, acting swiftly, set up an ambush at the location. When the suspects opened fire, a 30-minute gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of three bandits. Some gang members managed to escape with suspected gunshot injuries. Recovered items included three AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 33 rounds of live ammunition.
SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that joint operations with the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operation Base, 176 Battalion, Kwali, are ongoing to track the remaining suspects. Local medical facilities have also been placed on alert for victims with gunshot injuries.
The Commissioner of Police praised the bravery of the operatives and urged residents to remain vigilant, encouraging continued cooperation with security agencies.
This comes just a week after an officer died while trying to stop an attempted kidnapping in Guto Village, Bwari Area Council. About 30 armed men attacked a residence, prompting a gunfight that left two suspects dead and others fleeing into nearby bushes.
