    **Demands Candidates of Proven Integrity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to withdraw his newly submitted ambassadorial nominee list to the Senate, describing it as “reprehensible” and unfit to represent Nigeria internationally.
In a statement on Sunday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong called for a revised list featuring candidates with impeccable democratic credentials and unquestionable moral standing, capable of projecting Nigeria positively on the world stage.
The party claimed that some nominees on the current list carry questionable reputations both domestically and internationally, citing perceived “integrity gaps” and involvement in “anti-democratic activities.” According to the PDP, the selections reflect the President’s governance philosophy, emphasizing that nominees mirror the values and judgment of those who appoint them.
Highlighting the three-year delay in producing the ambassadorial list, the opposition argued that the administration appears to lack a pool of credible and competent candidates. Among the controversial appointments is former INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, whose tenure, the PDP said, was marked by inconsistencies and unfulfilled promises. Offering him an ambassadorial role, the party argued, sends a worrying signal about rewarding flawed performance.
The PDP further warned that appointing individuals with questionable political track records could damage Nigeria’s diplomatic reputation and undermine foreign relations. The party stressed that merit, transparency, and integrity must guide federal appointments to avoid a “diplomatic low point.”
“Global respect for a nation depends on the integrity of its leaders and representatives,” the statement said. “Sending ambassadors with tarnished profiles is a disservice to Nigeria and puts our international standing at risk.”
The PDP concluded by insisting that only nominees of unquestionable integrity and proven democratic values should be presented for confirmation.
