DSS Arrests Rivers Man for Calling for Military Takeover on Social Media

***Suspect traced through X handle, cooperating with investigators

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as Innocent Chukwuma in Oyigbo, Rivers State, for allegedly using his social media handle to call for a military coup against Nigeria’s democratically elected government.
Chukwuma, who operates the X (formerly Twitter) account @TheAgroman, reportedly made several posts urging the military to overthrow the current administration and “suspend the Nigerian government.”
In one of his posts, Chukwuma wrote:
“A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.
It will happen eventually. Nigerians, the military needs your support now! Only them can save this country.
The bastard in Aso Rock has basically sold this country to the West, and they run our intelligence apparatus. Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
Security sources confirmed that DSS operatives tracked Chukwuma to his location in Oyigbo and arrested him without resistance. The suspect is said to be cooperating with investigators as interrogation continues.
A senior security officer familiar with the operation said the agency acted swiftly after monitoring Chukwuma’s posts, which were deemed a direct incitement to subvert constitutional order.
“The Service will not tolerate any attempt, whether online or offline, to undermine national security or encourage the unlawful change of government,” the source said.
The DSS has yet to issue an official statement, but legal experts note that incitement to overthrow a democratic government attracts severe penalties under Nigerian law.
The arrest underscores the agency’s heightened vigilance over social media activities amid growing online agitation and misinformation. Analysts have warned that reckless statements calling for coups or insurrection could fuel instability and invite harsh consequences.
