Edun: Nigeria’s Economic Future Depends on Visionary, Responsible Leadership

Nigeria’s path to economic renewal and shared prosperity lies in the hands of visionary and accountable leaders, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has said.

Speaking at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference in Abuja on Tuesday, themed “Better Leadership for a Better Nigeria,” Mr. Edun stressed that building capable leaders is as critical as building sound policies.
Director of Information & Public Relations, Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted him to have
commended Ms. Arumah Oteh for convening a forward-looking platform dedicated to mentoring a new generation of transformational leaders who will drive innovation and inclusive development.

“Our economic future rests on leadership that listens, learns, and leads with purpose — ensuring that every reform delivers growth and opportunity,” he said.

The Minister pointed to several ongoing government programmes as examples of leadership translating policy into progress — including digital cash transfers to 8.1 million Nigerians, targeting 15 million beneficiaries, and the Ward-Based Development Programme, which is boosting small businesses and productivity across over 8,000 communities nationwide.

According to him, President Tinubu’s administration remains unwavering in its pursuit of macroeconomic stability, fiscal transparency, and inclusive growth, noting that only committed and credible leadership at all levels can unlock Nigeria’s vast potential.

“With responsible leadership and sustained reform, Nigeria is on course for lasting growth that benefits citizens and strengthens private sector confidence,” Edun assured.

He lauded Ms. Oteh and the Oxford Global Think Tank for championing leadership conversations that inspire a stronger, more resilient economy.
