NDLEA Uncovers UK-Bound Cocaine in Cream Jars, Meth in Coffee Pack

***Raids Lagos Club, Arrests Pretty Mike, 75-Year-Old Grandpa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted multiple consignments of illicit drugs in a series of coordinated operations across Nigeria, exposing sophisticated trafficking networks that cut across airports, highways, and even nightclubs.
The director of media and advocacy Femi Babafemi in a statement indicated that in one of the most audacious attempts yet, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, uncovered 70 parcels of cocaine cleverly concealed within body cream containers bound for London, United Kingdom.
The 3.6kg shipment, presented as personal effects on an Air Peace flight, was discovered on October 14, 2025, leading to the arrest of a cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle. Weeks of investigation later, two other key suspects—Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, CEO of Mutiu Adebiyi & Co. Travels—were apprehended in follow-up raids.

In a similar operation, NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, thwarted an attempt by a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine disguised as a herbal coffee mix bound for the Philippines.

Meanwhile, in Kwara State, 21,950 capsules of Tramadol 250mg were seized from a suspect, Umar Abubakar, after the drugs were found hidden inside a 100-litre water heater at Bode Saadu in Moro Local Government Area.

In Lagos, the NDLEA stormed Proxy Night Club, Victoria Island, during the early hours of October 26, following intelligence about a drug-themed party.
Over 100 people, including celebrity socialite Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, were arrested. The agency recovered cartons of “loud,” laughing gas, and other illicit substances from the club’s store.
NDLEA operatives, who had infiltrated the club undercover, disrupted the party at about 3 a.m., citing “standard operating procedures” for drug surveillance and control.
The crackdown extended to several other states:
In Taraba, two men were arrested with 450,000 pills of Tramadol and Exol-5 in a truck of building materials from Onitsha.
In Kogi and Nasarawa, over 290kg of cannabis (skunk) were seized in separate operations.
A 75-year-old man, Echendu Onuoka, and a 60-year-old woman, Aukana John, were arrested in Abia State with varying quantities of skunk.
In Lagos’ Lekki area, NDLEA nabbed Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, a mother of two and major distributor of premium cannabis brands, “Canadian” and “California Loud.”
In Ikorodu, officers uncovered 275 litres of “skuchies”—a street cocktail of blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids—inside a suspect’s home.
At the Seme border, two suspects were arrested with 55kg of skunk and 121 litres of skuchies, while in Zamfara, NDLEA officers intercepted a man transporting an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of ammunition, later handed over to security agencies.

Beyond enforcement, the agency intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, holding sensitization programmes in schools and communities across Oyo, Kebbi, Enugu, Benue, Taraba, Rivers, and Kano states.

Commending officers for their diligence, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the multi-agency collaboration and urged personnel to sustain the “balanced approach” combining enforcement and preventive education.
“Our mission is not only to seize drugs but to secure the future of our youth,” Marwa stated. “We must match intelligence with compassion, and precision with persistence.”
