The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment and commencement of postgraduate programmes as well as the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree for Salem University, Lokoja (SUL).

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Alewo Johnson Akubo, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Lokoja, saying the approvals followed a rigorous accreditation and verification process conducted by the NUC.

According to him, the approved programmes include Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (M.Sc), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees in Biochemistry, Mass Communication, and International Relations.

Prof. Akubo described the development as “another giant stride in the university’s pursuit of academic excellence”, noting that Salem University’s sustained investment in infrastructure, laboratories, digital learning tools, and library facilities contributed significantly to the successful accreditation.

“To us in Salem University Lokoja, this feat is a welcome development, having been ordained by the Almighty God, to whom we give thanks,”
    Prof. Akubo said.
“We remain committed to sustaining the university’s vision of transforming graduates into global leaders who will impact the world across all fields of human endeavour.”

The Vice Chancellor announced that admission into the newly approved programmes will commence immediately for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Prof. Akubo also congratulated the Founding Chancellor, Archbishop Sam Amaga, and the entire Salem University community on what he described as “a historic academic milestone.”
