***Commends Army’s swift response as residents return home

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has commended the Nigerian Army for its swift and decisive response in restoring peace to Kirawa, a border community in Borno State, recently overrun by Boko Haram insurgents.
Residents of the town, located near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, were forced to flee into Cameroon after militants attacked the community, burning the palace of the district head, a military outpost, and several homes.
However, the insurgents were repelled following the deployment of reinforcements by the Army, paving the way for displaced residents to return home.
In a statement on Wednesday, Senator Ndume, who represents Borno South, applauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, for their rapid intervention — particularly the deployment of the 153 Task Force Battalion to Kirawa.
He said the military’s prompt action prevented greater devastation, urging that troops remain permanently stationed in the community to ensure sustained security.
“The courage and resilience displayed by our military are laudable. I have always acknowledged that our troops are overstretched, yet they continue to record impressive successes despite obvious challenges,” Ndume said.
The lawmaker also called for stronger Nigeria–Cameroon military collaboration to secure border towns vulnerable to cross-border insurgent attacks.
While sympathizing with the people of Kirawa for their ordeal, Ndume appealed to them to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by sharing useful intelligence.
He further commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, for his continued efforts in rebuilding and resettling affected communities, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for demonstrating “genuine commitment” to restoring lasting peace in the North-East.
“Security of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of any government. The present administration has not failed in fulfilling this constitutional duty to Nigerians,” he added.
