Earn Endorsement by Performance, Not Tinubu’s Name, Group tells Ododo

The Campaign for Good Governance in Kogi State (CGGK) has urged Governor Ahmed Ododo to pursue re-election in 2027 on the strength of his own record rather than relying on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s popularity to secure political endorsement.

The group, in a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Sadiq Maiwuka, and other executive members, reacted to the recent inauguration of a committee chaired by Senator Smart Adeyemi to canvass support for the re-election of both President Tinubu and Governor Ododo.

According to CGGK, while President Tinubu has made measurable progress at the national level, Governor Ododo’s administration in Kogi State has little to show nearly two years into his tenure.

“Without doubt, President Tinubu has earned his stripes for reelection,” the statement noted, citing the reduction of debt-servicing obligations from 95% to 69% of national earnings, a 4.23% GDP growth in Q2 2025, a record N2.2 trillion FAAC disbursement to the three tiers of government in September, and the rollout of student loans that have benefitted about 600,000 youths.

By contrast, CGGK said, Kogi remains trapped in “a template of puppeteering” by former Governor Yahaya Bello, accusing Ododo of presiding over a government that is “more about sharing resources than delivering governance.”

The group alleged that billions of naira meant for local government councils are routinely diverted by top state officials, leaving council chairmen with little more than “monthly stipends” to maintain appearances. This, it argued, has contributed to insecurity, poor infrastructure, and decaying social services across the state.

“Except for the Audit House in Lokoja — which is already falling apart before completion — the Ododo government has nothing tangible to show,” the group charged. “One million committees prospecting endorsement for Ododo on the horseback of the President will not secure continuity for cluelessness and failure.”

CGGK challenged the administration to identify any landmark projects outside Ebiraland, including major roads, water schemes, rural electrification, or rehabilitation of schools and hospitals.

The group insisted that Ododo’s performance would ultimately be judged by “patriotic leadership, honest and accountable governance, functional security, and fair treatment of local government administrations,” not by borrowed political capital.

With two years left in his first term, CGGK advised the governor to take a cue from peers in states like Abia, Enugu, and Delta, who, it said, have tangible achievements to point to as they seek re-election.
