The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) has felicitated with the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its citizens on the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, praising the resilience of Nigerians and calling for renewed unity in building a stronger nation.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Chief Jacob Edi, the group described the anniversary as more than a ceremonial milestone, but “a time to reflect on our shared struggles, sacrifices, and the unbroken spirit that has kept Nigeria together despite daunting challenges.”

According to the NNMG, Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and the unyielding hope of its people. “What has held us together for 65 years is far greater than the forces that try to pull us apart. Our diversity, resilience, and shared hope remain the heartbeat of the Nigerian spirit,” the group stated.

The organisation also paid tribute to the founding fathers and past leaders, noting that their sacrifices — alongside the daily endurance of ordinary Nigerians — remain the foundation of the nation’s survival.

Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, NNMG applauded his courage in tackling difficult national issues and urged citizens to give full support to his reforms. “President Tinubu has demonstrated uncommon boldness in placing Nigeria’s long-term stability above politics. His leadership is a clear signal of faith in Nigeria’s future,” the group affirmed.

The group further urged Nigerians to set aside divisions and commit to the nation’s renewal. “This Independence Anniversary is a call to action. We must rekindle faith in the Nigerian project, unite as one people, and work collectively to fulfil the dreams of our founding fathers,” Chief Edi said.

While wishing citizens a happy celebration, the NNMG stressed that the promise of a greater Nigeria is within reach if leaders and citizens alike remain steadfast and united.
