Then Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the supply of refined petroleum products will remain uninterrupted, despite recent tensions between Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
The reassurance came after the Steering Committee of the Domestic Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Local Currency Initiative met today to review the downstream sector.
The meeting, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, included top officials from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd., Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Afreximbank, and Dangote Refinery.
The review follows a labor dispute in which PENGASSAN directed its members nationwide to withdraw services at Dangote Refinery, citing the controversial dismissal of over 800 Nigerian staff.
Dangote had warned that the industrial action could disrupt operations and lead to nationwide fuel shortages, raising concerns over energy security.
The committee confirmed that the Naira-for-Crude Oil arrangement will continue and assured that all outstanding matters between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery are being addressed promptly and in good faith.
The Federal Government emphasized its commitment to maintaining stability in the petroleum market, protecting consumers, and safeguarding the availability of petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, kerosene, and cooking gas across the country.
